Dave graduated with an Honors BSc. Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo and his Ontario College of Teachers Certification (Phys-Ed, Biology) from Queen’s University. Currently, his is pursuing his MBA at Wilfred Laurier. His other qualifications include: NCCP Level 1, First Aid and CPR Certified, OHA Development 1 Coaching. Dave has been involved with the game of hockey for over 20 years. Dave has played in the OHL for the Belleville Bulls and in the CIS for the University of Waterloo. As both a player and a coach Dave has had the opportunity to work with a variety of experts who are consistently improving the way we teach and train our athletes to play hockey. It is the lessons and knowledge obtained from these individuals combined with his personal experiences as an athlete that make him a valuable coach to all athletes. Dave takes pride in developing his athlete’s mental capacity and encourages the self-confidence to overcome any obstacle and achieve personal excellence. Dave has a wide variety of practical experience relating to Health, Fitness and Performance Training. He has an optimistic outlook on life and promotes an interactive, educational, and fun atmosphere for his clients.
Justin Brooks

Justin graduated with an Honors BSc. Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo and MSc Physical Therapy from Queen’s University. Justin has furthered his education with Precision Nutrition Certification Level 1, Acupuncture AFCI Level 1, Active Release Technique (ART) Lower Extremity, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA), First Aid and CPR, and OHA Development 1 Coaching. Justin brings both practical knowledge and a scientific approach to the Depth Training Team to ensure our athletes and clients are well trained, both physically and mentally. As a Physiotherapist and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Justin brings a unique combination of skills. Justin emphasizes dynamic movement techniques with the proper execution of strength and power exercises to develop efficient athletes capable of high level performance while minimizing injury risk. Justin’s integrated knowledge of strength & conditioning, nutrition and rehabilitation has been a key asset for the success of DEPTH’s athletes and clients.
Mike Laidley
Mike LaidleyLead Physiotherapist & Clinic Manager
Mike graduated with an Honors BSc. Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario and MSc. Physical Therapy from Queen’s University. He has furthered his education by completing Contemporary Medical Acupuncture at McMaster University, Concussion Management, annual Active Release Technique courses, and is working towards a Diploma of Advanced Manual Therapy. His treatment techniques include the use of Manual Therapy, Specialized Exercise, Active Release Techniques (ART), and Contemporary Medical Acupuncture. Previous to joining the DEPTH Training Team, Mike worked as the Lead Physiotherapist at Eramosa Physiotherapy. Mike has worked extensively with amateur and elite athletes (including OHL, AHL, NHL, and other professional athletes) treating sports injuries, post-concussion syndrome, and other musculoskeletal injuries. With an understanding of the functional demands of hockey and training, Mike uses his physiotherapy approach to restore adaptive potential, reduce the risk of injury and maximize athletic performance. Regardless of the injury, Mike’s goal is to get you back to sport or normal routine in a safe and timely manner.
Will Sibley
Will SibleyDirector of Mental Performance Coaching/Business Development Manager
Will graduated with an Honors BA in Psychology, with a specialization in Sport and Research. He is currently pursuing his Master’s in Human Kinetics at the University of Windsor. Under the guidance of Dr. Jill Tracey, Will worked as a Mental Performance Consultant with the Wilfrid Laurier High Performance Centre, where he was directly responsible for working with elite teams and individual athletes in order to improve their mental performance in areas such as motivation, imagery, goal setting, and anxiety regulation. Will has a passion for helping young athletes overcome barriers to performance through the use of positive psychology, and applied psychological practices. Will also brings a strong background to skill development training in hockey, as he operates his own goaltending school in the Waterloo Region, is NCCP Coaching Level 1 Certified, and played hockey for the Waterloo Siskins and OHL for the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors. Using his past playing and coaching experience, Will is able to help develop athletes both physically and mentally in order to prepare them for elite level competition.
Neil Martin
Neil MartinHead Strength and Performance Coach
Neil graduated with a BSc. Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo. While studying, Neil played for the University of Waterloo Men’s Varsity Soccer Team. He has also coached at the High School and Minor Soccer Levels in Kingston, ON. Neil excels at teaching skill-specific drills that will look to improve precision, power, and speed on the ball. His focus is on properly integrating strength, agility, balance, and coordination drills to improve on-field performance. Neil looks to educate athletes on the importance of proper movements, and efficiency of movements on, and off the ball in game situations that will help athletes become more well-rounded players.
Joe Underwood
Joe UnderwoodOn-Ice Development, Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach
Joe is currently enrolled in the Honors Kinesiology Co-op Program at the University of Waterloo and the Captain of the Men’s Varsity Hockey Team. Prior to attending Waterloo, Joe played in the OHL for five years with the Guelph Storm, Saginaw Spirit, and Belleville Bulls. Joe has extensive experience as a power skating instructor and has taught a wide range of individuals from beginners to pros about proper stride technique and ways to increase speed and efficiency on the ice. Being physically active and having a proper nutrition plan are two very important factors for individuals that result in numerous health benefits. Joe enjoys providing athletes and children with proper lifting techniques and motivation in hopes that training will lead to a life-long commitment to physical activity.
Dean Shanks
Dean ShanksFitness Manager Whistle Bear, Senior Fitness and Athletic Performance Coach
Dean graduated with an Honors BA Physical Education from Brock University. Dean is also a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, has completed the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Weightlifting Competition Introduction Workshop, Emergency First Aid CPR/AED Level C Certified. After completing his degree Dean moved to Edmonton, Alberta where he would work as a trainer/strength coach at Body by Bennett. During this time, he would be responsible for developing and implementing training programs for elite hockey players (WHL, AJHL) and the general population. As an athlete, Dean played provincial hockey (OHA) and provincial soccer (OYSL). Dean is characterized by his creativity, dedication, and passion for fitness and sport. His philosophy in life lays in the foundation of three main words “confidence, strength and control.” His personal training style is to lead by example and always make clients realize and appreciate their true potential.
Sally Litchfield

Sally grew up in Huron County, an hour out of KW, and moved to Waterloo for university in 2007. She graduated from the University of Waterloo in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Recreation & Business. She is currently working towards her Master’s of Business Administration at Wilfrid Laurier. Sally has 5+ years of experience in a variety of administrative roles, and joined the DEPTH team in September 2015. Sally played minor hockey growing up, and played rugby in the Ontario Summer Games and for the University of Waterloo. While you won’t see her at too many early morning bootcamps, she’s working hard to join the boys in the 500lb club!
Dr. Danny (Dhanbir) Dulay

Danny graduated with an Honors BSc. Kinesiology (pre-health option) from the University of Waterloo and D.C. (Doctorate of Chiropractic) from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC). Danny has furthered his education with certifications in the Functional Movement Screen (FMS), Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), Functional Range Release (F.R.), and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA). Danny’s treatment techniques include the application of Functional Range Release (F.R.) soft tissue therapy, joint mobilizations, joint manipulation, and rehabilitative/preventative exercise. Previous to joining the DEPTH Training Team, Danny worked as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist at Catalyst Health. Danny has worked with a variety of amateur and elite athletes (including OHL and NHL), maximizing client potential through functional training and rehabilitation. While pursuing his Doctorate of Chiropractic, Danny was an executive with the Rehab2Performance group, which helps bridge the gap between rehabilitation and athletic development/performance. Danny uses his chiropractic approach to reestablish functional body mechanics, educate clients to reduce the risk of further injury, and amplify the potential of all clients he works with. Danny’s goal is to restore function in a safe and timely manner to get you back to your daily demands.
Katie Mitchell

Katie graduated with a degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education from Wilfrid Laurier University, an advanced certificate in Athletic Therapy from Mount Royal University in Calgary, and an MSc. in Physical Therapy from Queen’s University. Along the way, she has worked with varsity women’s hockey, varsity men’s rugby, high school and junior football teams, Hockey Alberta, and the Okanagan Hockey Academy. Katie has furthered her education by completing Manual Therapy, Soft Tissue Release, Sports First Responder, Vestibular, and Acupuncture courses. She is also a PhD Candidate at Wilfred Laurier University, with a research focus on the assessment of athletes with concussions and return to play. Katie also provides athletic therapy coverage for the Waterloo County Rugby Club and has also worked with high level Para Sport including Sledge Hockey Ontario and wheelchair rugby at the 2015 Parapan Am Games. With an extensive knowledge of high performance sport and training; she utilizes a combination of hands-on treatment with active rehabilitation to optimize movement and prevent injury to help her clients optimize their potential and achieve their goals.
Heidi Sparkes

Heidi is a Registered Massage Therapist with 20 years of experience in the field. She has a particular interest in Myofascial work and Sports Massage. Heidi has a passion for helping athletes with the recuperation and recovery portion of their training. She also has 2 years of the Kinesiology program from University of Waterloo which has influenced her practice to have a more Biomechanical focus. Heidi believes that a good massage improves us physically as well as mentally and her goal is to make sure that each session is uniquely geared towards the individual’s specific needs. Heidi does not limit her services to only athletes, parents are encouraged to book sessions while they are in the facility waiting for their son or daughter. Whether your goal is to relax, reduce tension, reinvigorate or rejuvenate, Heidi will work with you to make sure you leave feeling much better!
Blake Wyatt

Blake has been a personal trainer for over 5 years. He was an overweight child growing up, and eventually found
bodybuilding, which really taught him the importance of connecting the mind with the muscle. This can be achieved
through years of hard work and deliberate repetition. Or, you can be taught at a much faster pace and reach your goals
sooner. Blake has studied and graduated with Honours in both Fitness and Health Promotions (at Niagara College), as well
as Kinesiology (at Brock University). He considers himself a movement specialist with a great love and respect for
biomechanics. What this means is that he can effectively analyze and correct exercises so that you’re feeling the exercise
where you’re supposed to, and get the most out of every set and rep that you perform. That translates to less wasted time,
and more concentrated effort towards your goals, thereby reaching them at an accelerated rate. Whether you’re beginner
or advanced, there are always more optimal ways to execute an exercise. Blake has spent the last 9 years experimenting,
learning, studying, and absorbing all fitness information to be the best trainer that he can be for my clients.
Nathan Farrish

Nathan Farrish is a recent graduate from Wilfrid Laurier University with a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology and Physical Education. Nathan was drawn to the athletic development and personal fitness industry after suffering a major knee injury in 2011. Joining this industry allowed Nathan to follow his passion for athletics and to teach others how to prevent similar incidents. Joining Depth as a volunteer in 2015, Nathan learned what it means to train a variety of clients ranging from young athletes to group fitness members with a variety of goals. He quickly bought into Depth’s values and combined them with his fun loving attitude and energetic approach to coaching others on fitness and training. He now brings years of experience working with youth in both an athletic capacity as a coach for multiple regional/school sports teams, and as a peer mentor in the Residence Life Don role at Laurier. As a trainer, Nathan puts a priority on keeping sessions fun, challenging, and lively. Currently seeking his Exercise Physiologist Certification from CSEP, Nathan is always looking for new and creative ways to keep clients smiling while they push past their limits!
Steph Watson
Steph WatsonNutrition Coach
Stephanie has a personal and professional passion for health and wellness. Initially Stephanie’s interest was in running, but after having completed a half marathon in 2012, she decided to set a new goal of competing in a fitness competition. This goal is what brought Stephanie into the Depth Training family where she received training and nutrition coaching for her first fitness competition in 2013 and her second competition in 2014. Through training as a client herself, Stephanie wanted to become more involved in the Depth team to inspire and coach others to achieve their health and fitness goals. Stephanie brings both a theoretical and hands on approach to nutrition coaching. Having personally gone through the process of learning how and what to eat for different fitness goals, Stephanie understands the complexity involved and provides practical tips and tools for common barriers. Stephanie enjoys working with clients from all backgrounds with various health and fitness goals to brainstorm and work together on creating a nutrition plan that is individualized and user friendly.

Annie Johnson
Annie JohnsonFitness Instructor/Personal Trainer
Annie graduated with a B.A. from the University of Waterloo in Recreation and Leisure studies in 2013 and is working
towards the completion of an M.A. in Recreation and Leisure Studies also from the University of Waterloo. Prior to her
post-secondary studies, she was very active in a variety of activities including competitive gymnastics, curling, and dance.
She attended the Quinte Ballet School of Canada (2005-2006) and has attended a summer intensive at the National Ballet
School of Canada (2014). Annie is Personal Training Specialist (PTS) [Can Fit Pro] and CPR/AED Certified (2012; 2016).
During her University career Annie was introduced to the world of body building, which reignited her competitive drive and
interest in the fitness industry. Recently she has become an active member of the Bikram Yoga community and uses the
breathing and focused meditation practices gained from her yoga involvement in her workout routines. This, however, does
not mean her workouts will be slow or boring! She has an energetic and positive energy, wanting clients of all ages and
skill levels to achieve their full potential!
Braden Southern
Braden SouthernStrength & Conditioning Coach
Braden is an undergraduate taking Honours Kinesiology with a minor in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of
Waterloo. He has been involved in athletics in many different facets, playing hockey, rugby, lacrosse, football and
powerlifting. He has also coached rugby, football and powerlifting. During his time at the University of Waterloo, Braden
has spent two years on the varsity football team as a starter and captain, and then moved on to be the assistant strength
and conditioning coach for the varsity basketball teams. From this background, Braden brings a unique perspective when
coaching dry-land and weight room oriented training. His focus is on teaching proper movement techniques and applying
it to life and sport for members and athletes alike to get the most out of their training experience.
Lana Pfaff
Lana PfaffFitness Instructor/Personal Trainer
Lana graduated with a BSc. in Kinesiology and Physical Education from Wilfrid Laurier University. She is currently
continuing her education at WLU and pursuing her Master’s in Kinesiology with a research focus on perception and action
integration and concussions. Lana also works with the Women’s Varsity Rugby team as their trainer. She is certified in First
Aid and CPR/AED and is NCCP Introduction to Competition certified. As an athlete, Lana plays competitive soccer (OWSL)
and has coached at the High School level. Lana brings many aspects of her sports training into workouts, with a focus on
functional training including multi-joint exercises that engage the core. She is eager to work with both athletes and those
who are looking to maintain a lifelong relationship with fitness. Lana believes success is achieved through hard work,
consistency and loving what you do. Her positivity and dedication to fitness and an overall healthy lifestyle makes her a
passionate coach for all individuals looking to reach their greatest potential.
